THE TRUTH BEHIND BORDERLINE PERSONALITY DISORDER – The Militant Baker

A candidly written article from the perspective of somebody who suffers from BPD. I don’t think I can stress how much of a tragedy this Disorder is enough. The person suffering from BPD first must live through abusive or traumatic formative years, and is then held responsible for their behavior in later years, because being responsible for their own behaviour is a reasonable expectation from those around them. The trouble is that certain parts of their personality in later years are underdeveloped and others are developed in such a way as to portray an unfeeling attitude towards others, or cruelty or abuse, and they will be responded to in ways appropriate to that. They suffer psychosis, and are often not responding to reality as it is. They suffer an inability to regulate their own emotions and will react to small stimuli in ways which can only be described as overreaction. They suffer from what I would describe as an incomplete sense of self, which often means they are unsure how to respond to the actions or words of others. To them, depending on the severity of their affliction, reality is in a constant state of flux. One individual described this as the feeling of being “in a washing machine” on some occasions and on others “like everything was just noise”. All of which happens primarily because they weren’t given a fair chance to begin with. It is so incredibly important that children be given a fair chance, a stable environment in which to develop.
